13.15 - Kasim Sulton has updated his online journal about his trip and gig in Cleveland, Ohio, plus some photos. Kasim describes the gig as "I played The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland last night to a fully packed house. I've frequently mentioned how popular Utopia was in the Ohio area and I'm proud to say the same seems to be holding true for my solo career. I had such a great time and the crowd could not have been more appreciative."

Direct links to the photos of Kasim are here, here and here.

Kasim has also posted another couple of videos on YouTube.com. This time they were taken on his and Doug Kennedy's recent road trip to Cleveland.

03.30 - Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the eighth gig of his The Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour and surprisingly his only gig in Ohio. The gig tonight is at The Beachland Ballroom which is about 10 miles outside the center of Cleveland.

This will be Kasim's fourth gig at this venue (his first in almost 4 years). Kasim is once again playing in The Tavern part of the venue (which is the smaller hall) and usually the place is packed when he plays here. The address of the venue is:
15711 Waterloo Road, Cleveland, Ohio, 44110-1659 and the telephone number is 216 383 1124.

Doors open tonight at 7.00pm with the show starting at 8.00pm. Tickets are $18 on the door or $16 in advance. Click here to purchase in advance. Nick Riff is the opening act (playing an acoustic set) so Kasim will probably take the stage at around 9.00pm. Doug Kennedy will again be playing with Kasim.

This will be the final chance on this tour for fans to attend the SoundCheck Package and spaces are still available.

Kasim has said that there will be "late notes" at the end of the gig which has intrigued a lot of fans!

Kasim Sulton and The New Cars - message from Elliot Easton
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton and Todd Rundgren in Phoenix, AZ on 17th May - photo by Jen Schiffbauer 16.30 - There's a really great message from Elliot Easton at this link on TheNewCars.com saying that they respect his decision to honour his prior commitment to Meat Loaf and "as soon as he is able, he will rejoin The New Cars, and will be welcome back with open arms by both the band and, I'm sure by our beloved fans."

Elliot also says "Kasim Sulton is the bass player and second lead singer of The New Cars. He always has been and always will be." and "There can only be one choice for bassist. In the meantime, we will have a substitute filling in, who is a fine and talented musician, and who will be named before too long; I promise to tell all of you who he is just as soon as is appropriate. Speaking for myself, Kasim has been my dear friend and occasional collaborator for 28 years (!), and I really look forward to having him back and permanently in the fold. We all do.".

Kasim and Meat Loaf
Kasim Sulton 07.00 - Just a round-up about the latest news on Meat Loaf (as Kasim will be working with him for the next year or so).

  • Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose has a release date of Tuesday 31st October (Monday 23rd in UK and Europe).
  • The first single from the album is the song It's All Coming Back To Me Now which has a release date of Monday 16th October. The video is already showing on VH-1 Classic and is a duet with Meat Loaf and a new female singer Marion Raven. (This song was written by Jim Steinman and was a big hit for Celine Dion in 1996 - Kasim sang background vocals on that track.)
  • So far two promotional concerts (which will only feature music from the three "Bat" albums) have been announced:
Monday 16th October at The Royal Albert Hall, London - this show will be recorded for a DVD release.
Thursday 2nd November at Palace Theater, New York City
Tickets for both shows are not yet on sale.
  • Currently Meat Loaf is in UK making appearances (e.g. an award ceremony and this weekened he's playing a Pro-Am Golf Tournament). Although he's generated a lot of publicity (including appearing on the front of a UK newspaper) there have been very few mentions of the album or single release.
  • A tour to promote the album is still expected to start in March 2007. It's not been announced yet where the tour will start. Kasim was reported as saying (off-stage) at one of his solo gigs that he expects the tour to last a year to 18 months.
  • Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour Mileage
Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour Mileage 06.30 - As Kasim has said that he and Doug Kennedy will be driving out to Cleveland today, here are the details about his road trip. This will be the eighth gig of The Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour and the gig tomorrow night is at The Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio.

The drive today will take just over 7 hours (less stops!) and Staten Island to Cleveland, OH is 493 miles by road. This drive will be almost due east mainly just over 100 miles on the I78 and then 250 miles on the I76. Thankfully it seems that Doug shares the driving too so at least Kasim won't have to drive all the way himself and he'll have someone to talk to on the journey.

(A flight from LaGuardia Airport to Cleveland would take 90 minutes and cost less than $200 each return!)

Staten Island to Cleveland, OH - 493 miles each way.

The Total Tour Mileage listed here after Kasim's gig in Greenville, SC was 1,945 miles but that was with listing Greenville as a round trip of 1,466 but Kasim posted that his actual mileage was 1,490 so that means the mileage should have been 1,969 miles.

Total Tour Mileage - 2,955 miles.
