Kasim not touring with Patty Smyth and Scandal
17.30 - Patty Smyth and Scandal have recently announced that they are going on tour. To date there are 6 gigs booked (plus a TV appearance on Regis and Kelly on 9th August). The tour starts this Sunday in Dallas, Texas but Kasim Sulton will not be touring as part of the band this year. Instead Tom Welsch will be playing bass.

(As Thommy Price is currently on tour as part of Joan Jett and The Blackhearts his place will be taken by Eran Asias.)

In early 2005 Kasim played 8 gigs as part of Patty Smyth and Scandal on the East Coast and Ohio.

Many thanks to Angela for the tour info.

Kasim's gig in Valparaiso, IN
17.15 - There are still a few of the $25 (front 5 rows) seats left for Kasim Sulton's gig in Valparaiso, IN on Sunday 24th September, including some around the middle aisle. This venue seats 140 people and there are lots of seats available in the $20 price band too.

Even if you can't get to the gig it's worth listening to the recorded message on the box office telephone answerphone (219 464 1636) for a great Kasim mention!

Kasim on Broadway
14.15 - According to reports on various news websites, the Meat Loaf concert on 2nd November at The Palace Theater in New York will be a "three-act Broadway show with Nikki Sixx, Brian May, Steve Vai and others" so it sounds as though Kasim Sulton (as Musical Director) will have an all-star cast to organise that night!

(Kasim has previously played on stage with Brian May when he made a guest appearance at one of Meat Loaf's concerts at Wembley Arena in London on Monday 5th December 1994.)

Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour Mileage Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour Mileage
2.00 - By popular request (okay, 5 people asked me about it!!!) I'm going to be adding the Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour Mileage!

Strictly speaking this isn't a tour in the respect that Kasim Sulton won't be going away for weeks at a time so consequently for this tour I'll calculate the mileage from Staten Island to the various gigs and back (unless it's obvious that he'll be staying away for more than one gig). Also please note that I won't be doing it from his actual house but just the general zip code.

The first gig which Kasim played on the Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour was at The Bitter End in New York City on Saturday 15th July. This was a relatively local gig for Kasim as the journey was only supposed to have taken him about 29 minutes!

Staten Island to New York City - 16 miles.

Total Tour Mileage - 32 miles.

Wednesday 2nd August 2006 - Kasim Sulton is in rehearsals today with Meat Loaf's band
Website Closing
06.00 - It's always sad when a website closes and unfortunately Maria who runs a website about The Cars and The New Cars called MovingInStereo.org has announced that she's closing hers in the next day or so.

When it was first rumored that Kasim would be playing with The New Cars, this was one of the websites with the most info about the band.

Maria explains her reasons for the closure here.

KasimSulton.com
05.00 - The photo gallery on KasimSulton.com has been updated with some great photos of Kasim's gig at The Saint on Saturday.

Many thanks to Jennifer Salyer for noticing these.

Tuesday 1st August 2006 - Kasim Sulton is in rehearsals today with Meat Loaf's band
Kasim Podcast
19.00 - Joe Lynch features five tracks from Kasim Sulton's first solo album Kasim on his latest podcast here.

The tracks featured are:
Someone To Love
White And Red
This Must Be Love
Roll The Dice
Rock And Roll

Coincidently someone asked Kasim at his gig on Saturday at The Saint about whether the album Kasim was on iTunes yet. Kasim said that it wasn't but at least with this podcast more people will be able to hear it as Joe mainly features Beatles tracks.

2 Bat Out Of Hell III Concerts Announced
02.15 - According to various press reports about the Bat Out Of Hell III Press Conference last night, they will be playing at least two promo concerts for the album in the fall.

On Monday 16th October Meat Loaf (and his band) will be playing the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London, England in a show called Meat Loaf -- Bat Out Of Hell Acts 1, 2 & 3 Live which will be recorded for DVD release and worldwide television broadcast.

On Thursday 2nd November they will play New York as a very special one-time event on the stage of Broadway's famed Palace Theater. The show will feature songs from all three Bat Out Of Hell albums in the trilogy, and Meat Loaf will share the stage with special guests, still to be announced.

Tickets for neither of these gigs are yet on sale.

Kasim at Bat Out Of Hell III Press Conference
02.00 - Last night Kasim Sulton made an appearance at the Bat Out Of Hell III Press Conference at a nightclub in New York City. Although Kasim wasn't interviewed during the main press conference (he was up on the balcony) at one point Meat Loaf was asked how he would pick which songs to sing from the three Bat Out Of Hell albums he said that he and his Musical Director Kasim Sulton have been trying to figure it out. He then apparently pointed up to Kasim and told him to take a bow!

Todd Rundgren and the album's producer Desmond Childs also made appearances at the press conference.

Kasim's Online Journal
12.45 - Kasim has updated his online journal. He describes the gig on Saturday at The Saint as "I had a great time tonight and although the crowd was small, I fell [sic] like I'm starting to get my 'Sea Legs' back. It usually takes a few shows to fall into a groove and with this, the third show in a series of roughly 12, I'm enjoying myself more and more."

Kasim also says that he'll be reheasing with Meat Loaf's band this week and next ready for some concerts in October.

Kasim's gig in Schenectady, NY
12.30 - Apparently I was given the wrong date as Kasim Sulton's two gigs in Schenectady, NY will be on Saturday 2nd September (not the 3rd). More info will be added later.

Friday 28th July 2006 - ONE day until Kasim Sulton's gig at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ!! Tonite Kasim Sulton plays a Meat Loaf gig at Toms River in New Jersey
Another new Kasim gig
00.30 - Another new gig(s) has been added to Kasim Sulton's 2006 Tour. It's on Saturday 3rd September and is back at the Van Dyck in Schenectady, NY.

At this venue they always make the artists play two performances in an evening so Kasim will be playing at 7.00pm and 9.30pm. Tickets are $20 for one of the gigs or $30 for both.

Kasim Sulton at Toms River tonite
00.15 - Tonite Kasim Sulton plays his first (non-corporate) gig with Meat Loaf since September 2005. The concert tonight is at Toms River Fest in Toms River, NJ. Click here for the festival website called TRFest.com!

This festival is an annual event which this year lasts from Thursday 27th to Sunday 30th July and the funds raised go towards various schools in the area. The festival today is open from 2.00pm until 10.00pm and there are rides for children plus activities like stiltwalkers and face painting.

Meat Loaf's concert is being held at the main stage (the Pine Belt Main Stage) and starts at 7.30pm. Joan Jett is also playing tonite but in the Poland Spring Arena at 6.30pm.

There are still tickets available for Meat Loaf's concert here. Currently there are seats in eight row of the second block back for $75. General Admission tickets are $25.

The one downside about this festival is that there is no parking on the venue site and patrons are bussed in. People who have attended gigs here on previous years have reported that this is very well organised.

Thursday 27th July 2006 - Two days until Kasim Sulton's gig at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ!!

02.30 - Rehearsals.com have a great 16 minute video of The New Cars in rehearsals before one of their show-case gigs in Los Angeles in January. (Click the "Calling all Cars" link at the right side of the link above.)

Kasim Sulton starts being interviewed at about two and a half minutes and there's a hilarious part when Brian Wilson turns up at the rehearsal and Kasim insists that they stick to the schedule and perform Drive when he's there!

Many thanks to Dustin29 for posting about this.

Wednesday 26th July 2006 - Three days until Kasim Sulton's gig at The Saint in Asbury Park, NJ!!
Kasim Sulton at The Century Lounge - 8/20/06 Rhode Island gig for Kasim
13.15 - A gig in Providence, Rhode Island has been added for Kasim Sulton's 2006 Tour! It's at The Century Lounge and will be on Sunday 20th August so is the day immediately after his gig in New Haven, CT.

The gig starts at 9.00pm (doors open at 8.00pm) and tickets are either $15 in advance or $20 on the door.

Kasim isn't listed on the venue website and tickets aren't on sale yet but they should be very soon. Click here for more info.

New CD / DVD Release of Liars
05.15 - Sanctuary Records are releasing a special CD / DVD of Todd Rundgren's Liars album in UK on 31st August. Click here for more info.

As well as the Liars album, this package includes the DVD of the concert which was filmed at the Egg Performing Arts Center in Albany, New York on 9th June, 2004.

The promo page (link above) mentions Kasim (mainly in relation to his work with Todd Rundgren and on Bat Out Of Hell).

12.45 - There's a "Note from Kasim" on TheNewCars.com here. (Unfortunately the photo does not show on the website.

In part Kasim says "We will be making up some of the dates in September and then hitting the road in the late fall."

Kasim's online journal
02.45 - Kasim has updated his online journal. He describes the gig on Saturday at The Tin Angel as "Judging from the reactions of the crowd during the show and the subsequent reviews, I think it went really well. Decidedly better than the first show a week before." Kasim also says that the Soundcheck Package went well. (The reason there's been no mention of it on this site is that despite there being 10 people attending nobody has posted about it or mentioned it in their reviews!)

Kasim also says that both Doug Kennedy and Dennis DelGaudio will be joining him on stage again next Saturday at The Saint.

12.30 - According to a post in this thread on the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com, Kasim Sulton is quoted as saying at his gig on Saturday at The Tin Angel that he may not be able to play the Atlanta, GA concert on 8th September with The New Cars.

As this is a rearranged gig the good news is that refunds should be available but fans are advised to check closer to the date whether Kasim will definitely be playing or not.

Kasim's Set List at The Tin Angel
Kasim Sulton15.30 - Apparently Kasim Sulton's set list at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia last night was:

Somebody Loves You
Yellow Cab
Where Is My Soul
Before She Was Gone
Jane Doe
Drive
Sacrifice
The One Sure Thing
Libertine
I Don't Mind At All
Minutes Slipping Past
There Goes My Inspiration
Don't Hold Me Back
Across The Universe

Minutes Slipping Past is a new Kasim song and this was its first public performance. According to Kasim's written set list he was also going to sing another new Kasim song called Are You Happy Now immediately after Minutes Slipping Past but they didn't play it. Also on the set list was a choice of the Todd Rundgren song Cliché or the Utopia song There Goes My Inspiration and he sang the latter.

Kasim played 14 songs at this gig (which lasted almost an hour and a half) and the first 9 songs were identical to the set list he played at The Bitter End last Saturday. He only played two different songs - his new one Minutes Slipping Past and at the end he sang Across The Universe whereas last weekend he sang One World (although Across The Universe was written on the set list).

The additional musician on stage last night was Dennis DelGaudio who played lead guitar in Movin' Out with Kasim. Dennis was in the stage band throughout its run and also headed up the stage band when it ran in London, England earlier this year. Dennis also fronted his own band for 15 years and in another one of those "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Kasim Sulton" links, in Januay 2005 Dennis played for The Goff Sisters (Amy and Elanie) who used to be the female support singers for Meat Loaf back in the 1980s!

One comment I've heard today about Dennis DelGaudio was how great his background vocals blended in with Kasim's and how well both all three of them (Kasim, Dennis and Doug Kennedy) played together on their guitar. Click here for a photo of Kasim with Dennis from Kasim's online journal.

A review and photos of this gig will be added soon.

Kasim Sulton at the Bitter End, 7/15/06 - photo by Jennifer Salyer New Interview with Kasim Sulton online
14.45 - There's a new e-interview with Kasim Sulton online on UpstageMagazine.com.

Amongst other things Kasim discusses his solo gigs (he says he is still planning to record another solo album), working on Movin' Out, playing with Todd Rundgren in The New Cars and the forthcoming Meat Loaf album and tour next year.

Kasim Sulton's gig at The Tin Angel
03.30 - Kasim Sulton sang a new Kasim song at his gig at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA last night called Minutes Slipping Past!

Somebody described the show as "This show was so so much better then the first one. Not only did he sound even stronger vocally, and he was much more at ease as everyone was not talking, but the guitar work was amazing and the show had a whole new depth with the third guitarist."

Reviews and photos of this gig will be posted later.

Saturday 22nd July 2006 - Tonite Kasim Sulton plays a gig at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia!!
Kasim mention on CityPaper.net
04.15 - Kasim Sulton's gig tonight at The Tin Angel is listed on CityPaper.net. His mention appears in the listing section for music clubs.

As it will disappear after the gig, it's shown below.

Kasim Sulton

Kasim Sulton at The Tin Angel, Philadelphia
04.00 - Tonite is Kasim Sulton's second gig of his Kasim Sulton 2006 Tour!

Kasim will be playing at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia, PA and he has promised us new songs and a new band member!

Philadelphia, PA is about 97 miles south of New York City (about one hour and 45 minutes by road) and tickets cost $16. Venue and ticketing links can be found here. This will be Kasim's fourth own gig at this venue - the last time he played here was in February this year.

The Tin Angel is right in the center of Philadelphia and is very easy to find. There's lots of parking nearby - the closest is just opposite the venue. The room itself is long and narrow so they recommend that you eat first at the restaurant below called The Serrano as only diners can reserve tables. However there are stools all along the right hand side where anyone can sit but it's best to get there early for the best view.

Doug Kennedy used to live near Philadelphia until recently and his band The Isle Of Q gigged out of the city so there's bound to be loads of his friends and family in attendence (they'll be the noisy ones there!) so that always makes a great atmosphere too.

One "interesting" feature of this venue is that the restrooms are just behind the stage and are also near the dressing rooms, much to the delight of some fans! The lighting at this venue tends to be quite dark (so hopefully Kasim will wear a light colored shirt this evening!) but there's an excellant sound system here and they usually have very good sound guys too.

According to the venue website there is no opening act! Possibly they just haven't listed one and will get a local act in but equally possibly maybe Kasim will be allowed to play for longer!

One thing lots of fans like in particular about this venue is that the next show here doesn't start until 10.30pm and The Tin Angel is great at not making people leave immediately so that leaves lots of time for fans to talk to Kasim afterwards and to take photos!

This is one gig where lots of fans are travelling in to see the show. Although most fans tend to keep quiet about their travel plans I know personally fans who are travelling in from Texas, Buffalo, NY and Cincinnati, Ohio!

Friday 21st July 2006 - ONE day until Kasim Sulton's gig at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia!!
The Kasim Sulton Band to play New Haven!
18.45 - According to the Toad's Place website on Saturday 19th August it won't just be Kasim Sulton playing the gig but The Kasim Sulton Band!!

It's certainly been years since that phrase has been used (and technically this is probably the first time ever that The Kasim Sulton Band has been advertised as playing on a venue website as the last time that Kasim fronted his band was pre-Internet days!).

Tickets are now on sale online for this gig here but it's slightly strange as it doesn't mention Kasim by name on the booking page!

Even including all charges, advance tickets for this gig are cheaper than buying on the door and that is strongly advised as it's not a really large venue. Tickets can be brought from outide the US on this website too.

Kasim Sulton Band

09.30 - In answer to lots of fans' comments about the lack of contact / info from the band and management, on The New Cars official website TheNewCars.com they've started a new section called Notes From The Band. There's nothing from Kasim yet but Elliot Easton has posted one here in which he says (in part):
"We will be making up some of the dates that we didn't get to play in September, and then in the later autumn we'll be doing another tour of the US, probably playing multiple nights in smaller venues."

To date only the 8th September date in Atlanta, GA has been booked and refunds were available from all the other venues (and compulsory at most).

04.00 - Some photos of Kasim Sulton and Doug Kennedy at their gig at The Bitter End last Saturday have been added to the Photos section of the website or click here for the direct link.

Many thanks to Jennifer Salyer for all these photos. Another (large!) batch of photos of this gig will be added tomorrow.

Thursday 20th July 2006 - Two days until Kasim Sulton's gig at The Tin Angel in Philadelphia!!
Kasim Sulton I Don't Mind At All
18.30 - One of the new songs which Kasim Sulton sang at The Bitter End on Saturday, the Bourgeois Tagg song I Don't Mind At All, was co-written by Lyle Workman and Brent Bourgeois. Click here to read the lyrics.

Lyle Workman currently has the song playing on his official website LyleWorkman.com to give you an idea of the original recording. (Move your cursor over the list of songs on the right of the page and it scrolls down to the song - it's one below Keep On Running by Todd Rundgren!).

In one of those "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon Kasim Sulton", Lyle Workman played on both Todd Rundgren's Second Wind and Nearly Human!

Kasim Sulton at Toad's Place - 8/19/06 Another new Kasim Sulton gig!!
14.00 - Another gig has been added to Kasim Sulton's 2006 Tour! It's on Saturday 19th August at Lilly's Pad in Toad's Place in New Haven, CT.

Kasim has played at Toad's Place several times over the past few years (most recently with Todd Rundgren) but I believe that this will be Kasim's first performance in Lilly's Pad. The link above has photos of the room where he'll be playing.

Tickets for this gig will be $15 in advance or $20 on the door and will be on sale soon. Kasim's gig will start at 9.00pm and I've been assured that more gigs will be arranged around this date so for all those Kasim-travellers this will be a good gig to travel to!

Kasim Sulton at Toad's Place - 8/19/06 Click here for more info. This is the 10th gig which has been announced on this tour and the 4th new venue (so far!) for a Kasim gig.

Kasim mention on MainLineTimes.com
01.45 - Kasim Sulton's gig this coming Saturday at The Tin Angel is listed on MainLineTimes.com. His mention appears in the listing section where clubs like The Tin Angel, The Khyber and other clubs in the Philadelphia area submit their music bookings for the week.

As it will disappear after the gig, it's shown below.

Wednesday 19th July 2006 - Kasim is in Los Angeles doing some work for Meat Loaf
Photo of Kasim Sulton at Cuyahoga Falls concert by Michele Kotlarsky Kasim's new gig at The Bitter End
16.30 - Apparently Kasim Sulton's gig at The Bitter End in New York City will be on Friday 29th September and not Saturday 30th as originally announced.

This will be the final gig in the Summer section of Kasim Sulton's 2006 Tour so he'll be ending this part of the tour at the same venue as he started the tour!

Tickets will go on sale tomorrow and will be $18 advance and $20 at the door. Kasim will be the first act on stage that evening.

New Kasim Sulton gig
15.30 - According to KasimSulton.com Kasim will be playing another gig at The Bitter End in New York City! It's on Saturday 30th September and he'll be playing in the earlier slot of 8.00pm. Click here for more details.
Photo of Kasim Sulton and The New Cars at The Gibson Amphitheater, Universal City The Road Rage Tour
13.30 - Apparently Blondie (who were on The Road Rage Tour with The New Cars in May and June this year) will be playing some concerts in Japan and Korea from 6th to 13th September. This covers the time when The New Cars will be playing their concert in Atlanta, GA on 8th September with Berlin as their opening act.

Originally The New Cars were reported to be planning to play the Far East too but it seems that Blondie will be making that trip on their own. The New Cars are still rumored to be playing gigs in November and December but nothing has been announced and it's possible that during those months Kasim Sulton could be playing with Meat Loaf.

Tuesday 18th July 2006 - Kasim is in Los Angeles doing some work for Meat Loaf
Kasim Sulton Kasim and Meat Loaf
18.30 - There's a new video on Meat Loaf's official website Meat Loaf.net about the recording of Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose. The 30 second clip which anyone can view shows Kasim briefly (laughing!) at the end but the full length video which only paid members can access has 10 times more Kasim than Meat Loaf and is fascinating to watch! At one point some of Kasim's language is bleeped out(!) but a lot of it is him in fits of laughter so he is unable to sing!

In Kasim's online journal yesterday he wrote "I'm in LA right now doing some Meat Loaf work". To clarify one thing that I've been asked, Meat Loaf himself is not currently in Los Angeles as he is on a tour of 8 baseball games in 8 US cities to promote Bat Out Of Hell III. MeatLoaf.net has all the dates.

New Photos on KasimSulton.com
17.30 - Some new photos of Kasim's gig last Saturday night have been added to KasimSulton.com. If you continue clicking through them they lead onto the photos that were taken from the side of the stage at the final New Cars concert on 10th June which originally appeared on Flickr.com.

Many thanks to Jennifer Salyer for noticing this update.

Message from Kasim's Mailing List
02.30 - Yesterday a message was sent from Kasim Sulton's mailing list. Unfortunately it was not sent from Kasim himself (he appears to have stopped doing that recently).

Even more unfortuantely there was an error in it (again!!) as the website address for Kasim's gig at The Handlebar in Greenville, SC was listed as www.Handlebar.com. If you go to that website then you can buy handles for kitchen cabinets but to purchase tickets for Kasim's gig on 24th August the correct website is www.Handlebar-Online.com.

If you're not a member of the mailing list then the message can be viewed here.
