Bat Out Of Hell 3
Bat Out Of Hell III cover 16.15 - Taking a step away from The New Cars for a moment (and looking ahead to 2007), this is the latest Meat Loaf / Bat Out Of Hell 3 news:

  • Meat Loaf's new album (on which Kasim Sulton plays bass and sings background vocals) will be released worldwide around 31st October.
  • The full title of the album will be:
    Meat Loaf
    Bat Out Of Hell III
    The Monster Is Loose

The cover of the album (by Julie Bell) is posted on the right here.
  • Around the same time that the album cover was "discovered" on the Internet a track from Bat Out Of Hell III was also "discovered" on the Internet. Originally it was posted that it was found on a website where the "studio must have used this site to send a mix to someone and never took it down", however as the record company almost immediately issued a press release, it was very soon posted on Meat Loaf's official website and there's been no talk of any legal action being taken against that recording studio, it looks as though it was all staged! Click here to download the song. This song was written by Nikki Sixx (Motley Crue) and John 5 (ex-Marilyn Manson guitarist).
  • Unlike Bat Out Of Hell and Bat Out Of Hell II, not all the songs on this album were written by Jim Steinman. There have been numerous rumors and speculation about why this is (including "informed" fans who have said that they were told that Steinman has "taken back" some songs which originally were going to be on the album) but there has been no official statement regarding any of this. There is public record of a trademark case regarding the name Bat Out Of Hell between Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman here.
  • This link has photos from recordings of Bat Out Of Hell III. The photos which include Kasim are:
    Listening to a recording
    A nice posed photo
    His back view
    The recording crew!
This link has a list of possible songs on the album

  • The first single to be released from the album will be If God Could Talk.
  • Bat Out Of Hell III can be ordered on pre-release on Amazon.com here. (Please note that KasimInfo.com does not make any money from this link.)
  • Meat Loaf has posted that the tour will start in March 2007 but didn't specify where it will start.
  • Comments about Kasim at The New Cars concerts
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars 12.15 - Hark sent a long detailed review about the Phoenix concert last Wednesday to several mailing lists. The part he wrote about Kasim was:

"Kasim Sulton anchored the rhythm section throughout The New Cars set with his impeccable, professional bass playing and beautiful vocals. Kasim has the rare ability to make everyone around him sound better. This must be attributable to his exceptional ear, vesatility, unquestionable talent and vast musical experience (be it as a vital member of Utopia, Meat Loaf's music director, touring sideman extraordinaire or solo artist). Kasim was clearly up to the challenge of handling the lead vocals for (the late) Benjamin Orr's gorgeous Cars smash hit "Drive". I heard several people commenting how great his voice sounded after that number. It was one (undeniably) one of the evening's highlights. His long-standing musical connection with Todd (and even Prairie) was obvious throughout the set. Kas (like a fine wine) just keeps getting better with age."

On the other side of the coin, in this thread on TheNewCars.com (the official website which sometimes removes negative reviews!) a fan of The Cars posted "The Ben songs were bad...Let's Go / All Mixed Up / Candy-O were all amateurish and the greatest debacle of the night came when Kasim destroyed the beautiful ballad Drive...I don't know what you others were hearing, but just because you love a song does not mean it always sounds good. It was really bad and should be scrapped if no one can sing it justice." Another fan of The Cars responded in the same thread "I also think Kasim does an outstanding job on Drive, at least at the Pala show and on the album. He has a very controlled voice with a rich tone and not much vibratto, so he actually really nails Drive in my opinion. "

There are three pages of posts about The New Cars (with varying opinions about the band) on Curlio.com. The ones which mention Kasim are:

"Kasim is also an outstanding addition on vocals and bass."

"Kasim's steady colorful bass work and his clear bright harmonies on vocals."

"Kasim Sulton is one of the finest bassists out there with a TREMENDOUS voice."

"Kas is a great bassist with a voice like melted butter."

03.30 - Tonight Kasim Sulton and the rest of The New Cars will play their 7th concert of The New Cars Road Rage Tour and their 3rd out of 5 concerts in California The concert tonight is at the Viejas Outlet Center at Viejas Casino in Alpine (San Diego), California.

This concert is a General Admission concert so it's impossible to tell how tickets are selling. General Admission tickets are still available at $61 (plus taxes) and the Meet and Greet package is available at $370.00. Blondie will again be the opening act. This venue states that fans are allowed to take blankets in to the venue but no chairs.

This will be Kasim's first appearance at this outdoor venue as previously he's played at the Dreamcatcher Lounge within this casino. Sunset tomorrow is at 7.45pm (the concert starts at 8.00pm with Kasim expected on stage at about 9.45pm PST) and the weather is expected to be sunny during the day (with a temperature of about 74 degrees for the soundcheck) and clear for the concert with temperatures of around 59 degrees with 0% chance of precipitation.

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton and Todd Rundgren on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson on 27th March The New Cars concert cancelled
19.15 - The concert which The New Cars were to have played on Friday 23rd June in the 10,000 seater venue The Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada has been cancelled. No reason has been given. (Blondie will instead be playing a gig that evening at Metropolis in the city but The New Cars will not be playing this gig.) Full refunds for this concert can be obtained from where you purchased your tickets.

Looking at the tour schedule in calendar form The New Cars will now be playing Toronto, Canada on Wednesday 21st June and then Atlantic City, NJ on Saturday 24th June which will save them having to travel the 488 miles (7.25 hours by road) from Montreal to play a concert the very next evening in New Jersey.

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars 16.15 - The New Cars official website TheNewCars.com has some photos of the band at the concert in Universal City, CA on Saturday night. The ones which features Kasim are:

    Kasim with Elliot Easten

    Kasim with Todd Rundgren

This is a shot which shows the near sell-out crowd who were there!

The same website always has photos of various fans who paid over $400 to meet The New Cars. I haven't linked to them before as they're quite uninspiring photos but, for example, the Universal City photos are all available off this page. Apart from Kasim's interaction with the fans, they could almost be photographed in front of a photo of the other members of the band! Below are more examples of Kasim ensuring that those who paid $400 at least received a unique photo:

    Kasim's Journal updated
15.30 - You've probably already seen it but Kasim Sulton has updated his online journal with comments about the Los Angeles concert on Saturday night. Kasim describes it as "We had a great show and couldn't have asked for a more appreciative crowd. Come see us play. The shows keep getting better."

(Today will be a day of a lot of updates to KasimInfo.com (from sunny San Diego!) as I'll try to catch up on everything that has happened in the past week!)

The New Cars Road Rage Tour Kasim and The New Cars at the Gibson Amphitheatre, Universal City, CA
05.15 - Tonight Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince will play the 6th concert of The New Cars Road Rage Tour (with Blondie). The concert tonight is at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City (Los Angeles) California. This is the second concert of the tour in California.

The Gibson Amphitheatre was originally an outdoor stunt stage for Universal Studios! The amphitheatre opened in 1972 as an outdoor venue and artists such as David Bowie, Elton John and Frank Sinatra played there during the open-air days of the venue! In 1982 the amphitheatre was remodeled and reopened as a state-of-the-art indoor venue with "the best sight lines and acoustics in the industry". Now artists such as Eric Clapton, Eddie Murphy and Rod Stewart have played there. The venue has also been the site for events of worldwide interest, including hosting a Pope as well as a President. The Amphitheatre also provides a perfect home for awards shows and fundraisers: MTV Music Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards and AIDS Project Los Angeles' Commitment to Life events have all occured here. Although the venue is part of now part of The House of Blues, it has kept the name Gibson. Gibson Guitar Corp. is best known for producing the world’s highest quality musical instruments.

The New Cars Road Rage Tour This venue has 6,089 seats or they can be rearranged to only seat 3,900 fans. Yesterday there were tickets available for this concert in the 3rd Row after the Pit area. Regular tickets for this venue varied in price from $39 to $78 (plus charges) and the VIP packages were also available. This venue also held two online auctions recently. The first one was for two Second Row Orchestra Pit seats and two Backstage Hospitality Passes (but it doesn't say that you'll meet any of The New Cars). The opening bid was $45 for each set and the winning bid was $150 (so $300 in total). The second auction was for two Front Row Center Orchestra Pit tickets, two Backstage Hospitality Passes, and a Gibson Epiphone Les Paul Guitar signed by The New Cars. The opening bid for this auction was $90 for each seat and the winning bid was $505 each!

16.15 - The New Cars are now in Las Vegas, NV for the 5th concert of the tour. This will also be the 5 state that they will have played in! The trip from Phoenix, AZ was approx. 6 and a half hours by road and, if they followed the route which I drove, will have taken them over The Hoover Dam!

13.30 - Tonight Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince will play the 5th concert of The New Cars Road Rage Tour (with Blondie) at the Aladdin Theatre For The Performing Arts within the Aladdin Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

This will be Kasim's first appearance at this venue (although he seems to play Las Vegas at least once every year!). Click here for the venue website which has a nice videoclip of The New Cars. The venue website does not say how many it seats but the photo on the right here shows that it looks like everyone will be able to see the stage clearly.

This morning there were tickets available for this concert in the 10th Row but this is after the Pit / Orchestra area so in reality they are further back than that. Regular tickets for this venue varied in price from $45 to $75 (plus charges) or a VIP package was available at $423.81.

Many thanks to the kind person who noticed the new photos.

00.15 - Further to the post here yesterday reporting that TicketMaster.com are no longer selling tickets for the The New Cars concert on 4th June at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio (Cleveland), according to this interview with Todd Rundgren on CantonRep.com he says "My largest concentration of fans is in the Ohio area and moving toward Chicago. Even more than in Philly, my hometown. We expect to have a great response in Cleveland." Consequently it seems unlikely that the concert will not go ahead.

(The article just mentions Kasim Sulton in passing.)

Also, when you click The New Cars and Blondie link on the calendar for the venue website it takes you to a page just for parking at the venue and not to purchase concert tickets.

(Normally if a venue has sold out then TicketMaster will list that.)

    Kasim Sulton in Phoenix, Arizona
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars 21.15 - Tonight Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince will play the 4th concert of The New Cars Road Rage Tour (with Blondie) at the $38M Dodge Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.

This venue has various seating plans and can hold 1,900 to 5,000 fans for concerts and 5,500 for sporting or corporate events. Tickets for this concert are the most expensive of the tour with the highest non-package seats costing $157.75 including all charges. The cheapest seats were $45 plus they had the VIP packages.

This venue also held an online auction for 10 sets of two seats in the Pit (there are 148 seats in the pit). The opening bid was $160 a seat (so only slightly more than the regular price) but only one set was sold and that was for the opening bid. Consequently more seats in the pit went for sale at the regular price so it means that fans who bought their tickets as soon as they went on sale back in March, will be behind those that only bought recently. Just this morning TicketMaster.com were selling two seats in the third row.

Click here for a video about the venue and here for the venue website. The stage at the Dodge Theatre is 100 foot wide and 63 feet deep. The total allowable stage rigging is 140,000lbs so it seems that all the set will be displayed tonight (at the concert last night in Pala, CA there was no video screens or silver hoops as they were too heavy for that venue). This venue also has 7 dressing rooms (each with up to 4 telephone lines!), a Green Room and a Tour Manager's Office plus it offers the band and crew a washer and dryer!

This concert starts at 8.00pm (11.00pm EST) and will be the first time that Kasim Sulton has played at this venue.

21.00 - According to Prairie Prince last night they were travelling overnight for this trip.
