Kasim with Rick Reynolds
19.15 - Rick Reynolds will be interviewed tonight on Radio WUWF.org. He'll be on during 10.00pm and midnight Central Time and, amongst other things, he'll be talking about working with Kasim! This station streams live on the Internet and apparently Rick will be playing at least one song which readers of this site will certainly recognize!

(If anyone does listen, please do me a favor and e-mail me details about what Rick says as my media player won't work on that station!)

Kasim Sulton with Meat Loaf
17.30 - Apparently Kasim Sulton played a concert with Meat Loaf this past Wednesday evening (15th) at the Ritz Carlton on Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman. This was a private concert paid for by a software company called SAP America for their top salespeople. This thread on MeatLoaf.net gives some details about the gig and from the photos it looks as though they played a similar set to on The Hair Of The Dog Tour. Apparently Kasim came out after the concert and handed out guitar pics and people had photos taken with him.

Below is a photo taken at the end of the concert, plus a close-up of Kasim in the photo.

Kasim Sulton Kasim and The New Cars
11.15 - I posted this to the Yahoo KasimSulton Mailing List a few hours ago but the first New Cars tour date has been announced!

Well, officially it won't be announced until Tuesday 14th March but there's quite a giveaway at KonoctiHarbor.com (scroll down and the banner is on the left, plus I've posted it here on the right). The date given is Saturday 27th May (Memorial Day Weekend) and tickets go on sale on a month today at 10.00am!

It's not known whether the concert will be held at either the indoor or outdoor venue at this location but it does look as though the New Cars will be the headline act.

The indoor venue seats 1,000 people and seats vary between $45 and $109 for the different shows. Seats in the balcony / perimeter with no dinner are between $45 and $75 (depending on the artist) and seats in rows 1 to 5 with dinner are usually between $65 and $109.

The outdoor venue seats 5,000 fans (all within 200 feet of the stage) and it overlooks Clear Lake. Seats in the bleachers with no dinner are between $39 and $59 and premier seating with a pre-show barbeque are usually between $84 and $138 (depending on the artist). Seats in rows 1 to 11 have varied between $59 and $109.

The New Cars Tour Dates page has been updated with links.

Kasim Sulton Kasim and The New Cars
01.15 - There's an interesting review of the third (Sunday) New Cars show-case gig on this Blog on Flexible Planet. The comment he makes about Kasim Sulton during the gig is "Kaz kept under the radar with his solid bass and harmony vocals (except when he sang lead on "Drive"), and his side of the stage was teeming with swooning women of all ages - most Utopia fans refer to him as "the cute one""!

In his review about the events after the gig he says "Kaz came out and although everyone wanted his attention, he took a quick sec to shake my hand and pose for a pic. He could easily get snotty and selective (you’d think he might with so many people vying for his attention), but he was incredibly accommodating". There's also a really great photo of Kasim at this link.

The link to a photo of the set list is interesting for the comments beside the song titles - Drive is listed as "Acoustic".

Many thanks to TRiFanOK for finding this review.

Kasim Sulton Video Of The Week
15.15 - The Video Of The Week section (on the front page of the website) has been updated. This week it's The New Cars promo video.
Sanctuary Records
09.15 - Kasim Sulton's record company Sanctuary Records (or more specifically their parent company The Sanctuary Group) have made the news a couple of times in the past two weeks. Previously on KasimInfo.com links have been posted to reports about their money problems but today there have been a couple of reports about rifts with their auditors Baker Tilly who claimed that The Sanctuary Group's accounts were in contravention of the 1985 Companies Act (a UK law). They further state that they believe that "the group had understated its losses for 2005 and overstated losses from previous years". This was reported on both The Independent Online.com (The Independent newspaper is a UK daily broadsheet) and AccountancyAge.com (Accountancy Age is a UK based weekly magazine for the accountancy industry). Despite these claims Baker Tilly have still been invited to tender for Sanctuary's account for next year!

At the end of January reports appeared about Sanctuary announcing a rescue deal which it hopes will save the company. This report on Reuters.com explains it fully. Sanctuary shares have fallen more than 90 per cent since last June. Apparently they closed up 0.2p yesterday at 1.49p, valuing the company at £5.42m (about $8m).

It is not known how or even whether the problems at Sanctuary will affect Kasim's signing with the record label but some fans believe that the fact that he chose to make all of Yellow Cab available to download makes it unlikely that a different version of Quid Pro Quo with additional tracks will be released on the label in the future. Kasim has stated nothing in public about this to date.

Kasim and The Brits (Bon Jovi and Meat Loaf)
15.15 - For those who have not read the front page of KasimInfo.com today, it was On This Day in 1994 that Kasim Sulton was on British television when The Brits award show was aired. The Brits is a UK annual music awards ceremony (the British version of The Grammys) and Kasim is one of the few artists ever to appear in the same ceremony in two different bands!

Kasim flew to England to appear as part of Meat Loaf's backing band (playing guitar and singing background vocals) when they sang I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That). However on the airplane on the flight over, the story goes that Bon Jovi were on the same flight. As their bass player had just left the band, they asked Kasim to fill-in. Kasim played I'll Sleep When I'm Dead with Bon Jovi.

In June and July 1998 Kasim toured Japan, Australia and Europe (Germany, Holland and England) as part of Bon Jovi's lead guitarist Richie Sambora's band (click here for reviews and photos from that tour). Later that year Kasim played a one-off fan party as part of Jon Bon Jovi's band in New Jersey. Below are some photos from that event.

01.30 - One of the recent speculations on various mailing lists and messageboards is about the similarity between The New Cars logo (shown left) and the promo logo (shown below) for the new Disney movie called Cars which is due to be released on 9th June. The website for the movie is at CarsTheMovie.com but there's no mention whether they'll be using any of The Cars' music in the movie.

Most fans believe that the similarity between the two logos can not be a coincidence.

Kasim Sulton Kasim and The New Cars
18.00 - According to a post on the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com a fan apparently heard from someone who works on The Today Show that The New Cars are rumored to be appearing on The Today Show and / or The Morning Show from New York City sometime in May. (Again I stress that this is only a rumor.)

The bands on these shows play in Bryant Park on 40th Street and 8th Avenue. The shows are free but in order to get near the stage fans have to get to the park very early (6.00am or 7.00am!).

Kasim was supposed to have appeared on this show during the Summer of 2003 but Meat Loaf cancelled the appearance due to illness.

Kasim Sulton Kasim and the aircraft incident
17.30 - The article which was linked to yesterday about this incident in June 2005 didn't make it very clear but the reason that the story has made the news again (8 months after it happened) is because the results of the inquiry were announced yesterday.

This link is a slightly more balanced report.

Kasim on E-Bay
02.30 - The E-Bay.com auction here for a copy of Kasim Sulton's first solo album Kasim came to a close on Sunday with no bids being placed despite the opening price being only $6.57. This item has been relisted here but only as a Buy It Now item.
Also currently on E-Bay.com are the following Buy It Now Kasim Sulton items:
Kasim album - $5
The Basement Tapes (does not specify if it's the cassette or CD) - $22.14
Don't Break My Heart single (B side is Rock and Roll Canadian pressing - $20
Someone To Love single Japanese pressing - $8
Kasim album - $8
E-Bay E-Bay E-Bay E-Bay
(Please note that KasimInfo.com is not affiliated in any way with any of these auctions and makes no commission from any purchases made via links from this website. It is also our policy to only link to auctions for items which can not be brought commercially so that Kasim loses no royalties.)

Kasim in national newspaper
17.00 - Although Kasim isn't mentioned by name, there was an article about an incident which involved him on page 3 of today's edition of The Sun (a downmarket tabloid British newspaper).

The incident involved a bad landing at Manchester Airport when Kasim was returning with Meat Loaf and the rest of the band from a gig in Hamburg, Germany. Kasim recounted what happened in his online journal here but the incident occured in June last year and no explaination was given in The Sun about why they were publishing the story now! This link has details about the story that was published at the time (although with a photo of the food meatloaf!).

The article in today's Sun newspaper claims that Meat Loaf's weight was to blame for the incident citing that "cabin crew ignored orders to seat the 17st singer and his band at the front" of the plane to prevent this (plus they state that there was heavy luggage strapped into seats in the plane). The article doesn't explain how if Meat Loaf does weigh 17 stone (238 pounds) then how seating someone of Kasim's slight build would have made much of a difference!

KasimInfo.com
12.30 - Earlier Blog items have been moved to a new page to help this page load faster (especially for those on dial-up). The link is at the bottom of this page. (There will be another cull soon as this page is getting too large!)

Just a note about KasimInfo.com has I've been asked a couple of questions about it recently and I know that there has been a massive increase in the amount of traffic to the website since Kasim started working as part of The New Cars. KasimInfo.com isn't an official website but it has been described as "an authorized website" about Kasim (for example the link on Quid Pro Quo to this website and Kasim mentioning KasimInfo.com on stage at his solo gigs several times). Kasim will often pass info to this site and info from outside sources is checked but as this website is geared towards his fans, there are times when rumors are posted here too (even when sometimes I know parts of them to be incorrect!) but they are always clearly indicated as rumors. Also, some fun things are added too during quiet periods e.g. the "Pop star Kasim named as most fasionable artist" link from two weeks ago.

Obviously as the aim is to update the website more than once each day, sometimes more obsecure links and comments are added (sometimes it's hard to find relevent topical things to post!) but hopefully most readers of this website will find things interesting as the more mundane items are offset by important items like news, tour dates, reviews and, when Kasim is on tour, details of each venue that he plays are posted (which I know lots of fans find interesting).

Kasim at Toys In The Park
01.00 - FINALLY a photo has emerged from Kasim Sulton's appearance at Toys In The Park in Miami, FL on 18th December 2005! The photo was taken backstage and is on BillyLivesay.com.
Set Me Free
00.45 - For those who haven't looked at the front page of KasimInfo.com today, it was On This Day in 1980 that the Kasim Sulton penned song Set Me Free was released. This song was Utopia's highest placed single (reaching #27) and was their only release to reach the Top Thirty. Set Me Free also reached #5 in the Canadian charts in March 1980.

Although the song sounds like a boy / girl song, Kasim has mentioned at several of his solo gigs that he wrote the song due to his frustration at not being released from his contract so that he could record a solo album.

Kasim Sulton Kasim and The New Cars
17.00 - There appears to be an official online street team for The New Cars - click here to join. The join-up page has the comment "Mid March we will be announcing tour info, bands, line-ups, etc.

On a similar topic the fan-run website TheNewCars.net has been closed. The comment on the site is "Regretfully, we've been asked to delete this site. We'll be back in March.". The website owner posted elsewhere "As it turns out, the band's management company didn't even like that I had any mention of The New Cars on my site. I don't understand how this band is still supposed to be a secret."

Kasim "is a true gem"
12.30 - Kasim Sulton's caring nature is demonstrated in this thread on the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com. For those who are not members of the board, someone wrote to Kasim about a benefit they are arranging to raise money to buy a new van for her handicapped niece and Kasim has offered to donate something for the silent auction.

Kasim Sulton Kasim and The New Cars
12.30 - According to this post on the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com a fan asked a promoter in Connecticut and he responded "The New Cars will tour with Blondie and play Mohegan Sun in June or early July".

Although this has not been confirmed, it ties up with the talk about them playing in Atlantic City in June. If they play at the Mohegan Sun Arena then tickets are usually around the $40 to $50 price. It's unlikely that they will play at The Wolf's Den at that casino (where Todd Rundgren played in 2000).

Kasim Sulton Kasim and The New Cars
01.15 - Kasim Sulton said last week at his gig at The Tin Angel that while they were thinking of names for The New Cars, Elliot Easton suggested Nazz Car and Todd Rundgren suggested New Car Smells! For those reading this who are not aware of Todd's career, one of his first bands was called The Nazz.

(When this collaboration was first announced, lots of Todd fans liked the name Autopia but I wish they'd called it The Kasim Sulton Band!!)
