Kasim and The New Cars at Rehearsals.com
19.15 - Apparently (I can't see the video!) there's a video from The New Cars' show-case in Burbank, California on 22nd January on Rehearsals.com (the venue where they played). Click here for the link and then click on the link to see all the video.

There's also a page about The New Cars on the website with the following quote by Kasim:
""It makes perfect sense. "It's working out better than anybody had expected. Everybody was like, 'Well, it could work, but maybe it won't.' And I think after the first night, everybody was like, 'Yeah, this is gonna be OK.'""

The New Cars video
18.30 - DeaconLight.com has a great new gif (including stills of Kasim from the video) which links to The New Cars video of Not Tonight!

(She also has an amusing "game" on the Updates page here called "Crash SueW's server"!)

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars Kasim and The New Cars on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson
18.15 - According to a post by Darnelle on the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com, at the recording of The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson by Kasim Sulton and The New Cars, during the first take of Not Tonight, Kasim's microphone wasn't plugged in so they had to re-play the song!
Kasim's Journal updated
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton and Todd Rundgren at The House Of Blues last Tuesday 14.30 - Kasim Sulton has updated his online journal! He talks about The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson (he says that they were told that the two songs will air on different evenings). Kasim's posted several photos too. The ones featuring him are:

With Howie Mandel

With company

There are no photos of Todd Rundgren or Elliot Easton but there's one picture of Greg Hawkes and a couple of Prairie Prince.

Kasim describes this week of PR in Los Angeles as "This trip has been non-stop for me. A veritable whirlwind of activity."

Many thanks to Kris Awgul for this info.

Kasim Sulton Bio
12.30 - TheNewCars.net website has been reopened and includes a biography about Kasim Sulton. It's taken from AllMusic but it quite detailed (although it's another one which needs updating as it looks as though Kasim has done nothing for the past 5 years!). Click here to go to the Bio page (which has a great photo of Kasim on it!) and then click on Kasim's face to read the bio.
Kasim mentioned on the radio
01.30 - Yesterday Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes and Todd Rundgren were interviewed via telephone on 99.5 (The Mountain) in the Denver / Boulder, CO area and they gave Kasim a couple of mentions.

Near the beginning of the interview Elliot Easton said that he'd known Kasim Sulton for a long time and later when the interviewer asked Todd if he'd be singing lead on both the Ric Ocasck and Ben Orr songs, he said that they have "a really fine singer in Kasim Sulton" and then straightaway afterwards that "there may be some surprises" (in regards to the singing).

Many thanks to Michael for the recording and to Wendy Carson for the link.

New Cars and Blondie Road Rage Tour 2006 concert tickets
Kasim Sulton 17.00 - Further to the post here at 12.15 on Saturday 18th March titled "The New Cars and Blondie Road Rage Tour 2006 concert tickets", there's been an update on some of the venues:

  • Clearwater - one fan reported that last Tuesday on TicketMaster the least expensive VIP ticket was $160 for the 28th row. The following days she bought a ticket from the venue and got 5th row for $103.
  • Ravinia Festival - it's been reported in a couple of places that the $330 VIP tickets at this venue are now only offering lawn seats.
  • Tunica - in the post on Saturday I made a mistake about this venue. I posted "ever since tickets went on sale on Tuesday only seats in the rear block have been available. This venue is not offering the VIP packages and it's possible that the floor may be only for regular casino patrons. Seats are currently available in the eighth row of that back block." The error I made was that I was clicking the "best available" link on TickeMaster.com which each time brought up seats in the back block. When I changed the "location" tab to one of the side blocks, it brought up seats nearer the front so "best available" was not actually the best available (especially for a fan of Kasim's)!
  • Saratoga - When tickets went on sale via the Internet presale for this venue, regular priced seats were only available in the rear of the floor section. However when tickets went on general sale on Friday regular priced seats were available in the front few rows.
  • Cleveland - The Blossom Music Center have arranged a "New Cars & Blondie Premium Seat Auction - Seats in First 5 Rows and Backstage Barbeque" auction here. Possibly we're reading it wrong but it appears that so far there has only been one bid on one set of the 5 lots of 2 tickets and that it for the lowest possible bid of $85 for each ticket. The auction started on Saturday and ends on Thursday at 6.00pm.
  • (Many thanks to Sherrie Williams for the Clearwater info.)

Kasim and The New Cars - correction
12.30 - EntertainmentWise.com posted an article about The New Cars called "The Cars To Reform With Todd Rundgren on vocal duties.." which gave no mention of Kasim Sulton or Prairie Prince being in the band. Thankfully some fans have corrected that omission!
Kasim and The New Cars on The Late Show With Jay Leno
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars 03.00 - With thanks to Wesper, there's an interesting article on KShe95.com about why The New Cars played Let The Good Times Roll on The Late Show With Jay Leno and not their new single Not Tonight as was expected. (All the promo leading up to the press conference that day was using the slogan "Let The Good Times Roll".)

As articles on that website are removed after a while it says:

"NEW CARS DON'T UNDERSTAND 'TONIGHT SHOW' SONG DECISION

If you watched The New Cars on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on Tuesday (March 14th), you might have wondered why they played The Cars classic "Good Times Roll" instead of their new single "Not Tonight." Guess what? The band is just as confused as you are. They wouldn't tell us who made the decision, but lead guitarist Elliot Easton and singer Todd Rundgren joked to us that public safety concerns might have played a role: (Easton) "Like I was saying the other day -- on The Sullivan Show, you'd play your new single on Sunday night, and it'd become available Monday morning, and all the kids would go get it and say, 'Hey, did you hear that new song by The Stones? You know, it's great,' or whatever." (Rundgren) "I think maybe they were just apprehensive about the potential bloodshed -- you know, people trying to get into the store to get their hands on our single." (Easton) "Yeah, that's right, it was a safety measure."

Easton then said he didn't quite understand what the problem was with playing new material, which set Rundgren off: (Easton) "They underestimate the audience's capacity for absorbing something new. I mean, it's just a song, you know? It's not some new theory --" (Rundgren) "Oh, oh, NO! No, I, I beg to differ! It's not JUST a song, man!" (Easton) "I'm sorry. It's a SONG!" (laughter)

The group will release a live album on May 9th called The New Cars: It's Alive. It includes three new songs, including "Not Tonight."

The New Cars and Blondie kick off their Road Rage 2006 Tour in Robinsonville, Mississippi on May 12th."

Kasim and The New Cars PR
15.45 - You may remember that last Sunday there was a post here (see the entry called "Kasim and The New Cars PR" at 4.30am on 12th March) about how two British newspapers had thought that the reunion to be announced last Tuesday was going to be Phil Collins with Genesis and not The New Cars and that the messageboard on the official Phil Collins website was using KasimInfo.com to inform fans that it wasn't Genesis that was reforming. Peter Noble of NoblePR has made a post on TRConnection here to explain how that came about!
Kasim on The Late Show With Jay Leno
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars 12.00 - Regular readers of KasimInfo.com will know that the policy here is to post both positive and negative reports about Kasim Sulton. However out of all the posts from fans of The Cars, Todd Rundgren and Meat Loaf about The New Cars appearance on The Late Show With Jay Leno all I've seen have been positive reports! Below is a selection of them from various mailing lists and messageboards:

"Played the notes as they were written. He is the only one in this tribute band that can actually sing. I think he would have been a good replacement for Ben had the Real Cars toured instead of the Cash Cars."

"Didn't Kas look and sound great! It is so good to see both he and Todd getting such media attention, good on them!!"

"Could hear Kasim harmonizing in the background - and I was all smiles."

"It looked to me as though Kasim found the bass playing quite easy."

"They all played tight and were enjoying the energy of each other's playing ...i like how ELLIOT and TODD and KASIM encouraged the crowd to LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL."

"Kasim looked so happy at the end..."

"Well I am dissapointed in The Tonight Show! They never did a close-up of Kasim!!!!!!!!!!!! For what I could see he was having fun though."

"Kasim has good stage presence and does make a fair replacement for Ben, but it was a bit unsettling to see Todd instead of Ric."

    "Kasim was WONDERFUL!!!!!!!
He looked so handsome and smiled alot, just dreamy!!!!
He sang so awesome too. I'm not really a Cars fan, but Kasim made them better!!! He is such a class act!!!!!!
    "

"Gawd Kasim is hot ain't he. ,o)"

"Kasim looked great :)) just wish they had time to chat with Jay for a few moments."

"I wonder what the audience actually thought. Looked like Kas was joking with someone at the end."

"I thought it was too slow also.I do want to hear some of the other Cars tunes. I hope Kasim sings a few."

"At times the song had a surge to it that was very Utopia or Todd like. Prairie was playing nice and Kasim looked hot. "

"Thought Todd and Kasim sounded great...am getting excited..."

"Kasim looked like he was about to burst on the bass geetar."

"I thought Kasim did great on Ben's bass playing......hard to stomach though without Ric, Ben and David."

"R, Kaz and Prarie have brought some intense energy to The Cars excellent power pop music."

"In fact, with Todd and Kaz on board, this version of The Cars is undoubtedly the best live version in the band's history; back in the day I used to hear they were disappointing live, too cold and sterile. I didn't get that at all from this performance; I thought Todd brought some fire and emotion."

"Hopefully this will be more of a springboard for Kasim, really want him to get out from the shadows and get the credit he deserves."

"I think the boys are really going to enjoy this tour, and I'm especially happy for Todd & Kas. Utopia, it CERTAINLY isn't, but to see them in the "limelight" again, where they DESERVE to be."

    The New Cars Press Conference
04.15 - TRConnection.com have a very detailed run-down of The New Cars' press conference last Tuesday in Los Angeles which includes lots of the questions which were asked.
