14.45 - Five more concerts have been listed on TicketMaster.com here today! Rather than type them all in, I've attached a snapshot of the page (but be warned that tickets for the Las Vegas gig go on sale this coming Tuesday 14th March and not the day before the concert as it shows!). Tickets for all of these go on sale next week.

The tour name does appear to be The Road Rage Tour 2006.

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars and will be touring with Blondie on the Road Rage Tour this summer If you search on "The Cars" on TicketMaster.com, five acts are listed:

Kasim Sulton's February 2006
02.00 - Here is an analysis of Kasim Sulton's February 2006 (compared to February 2005 and 2004):

2004 2005 Appearance 2006
4
(incl. 3 opening sets)
- Kasim - solo 1
- 6 Show case Rehearsals
(Days)
-
4 - Meat Loaf 1
- 7 Movin' Out -
- 7 Patty Smyth -
1 - Internet Radio Stream -
9 20 Totals 2

Kasim Sulton often does work (e.g. session work, producing or recording) that fans do not get to hear about so any analysis like this has not guarantee of accuracy as it only reports what is known or discovered. Consequently according to the info available as this time, in February 2006 Kasim Sulton only played a solo gig (in Philadelphia, PA) and a corporate gig as part of Meat Loaf's band on Grand Cayman.

In total contrast we know February 2005 was very busy for Kasim as that month he was on tour as part of Patty Smyth and Scandal and played 6 gigs that month. The gigs were in Sayreville, NJ, Boston, MA, New York City, Westbury, NY, Atlantic City, NJ and then they made a trip to Cleveland and Cincinniti in Ohio. Kasim also fitted in 7 appearances in Movin' Out (on Broadway), plus towards the end of the month Kasim was the Musical Director at rehearsals for at least six days in New York City for a show-case gig early in March.

In February 2004 Kasim Sulton was a real jet-setter! He had only arrived home on 31st January after spending 3 weeks in Europe playing Meat Loaf concerts before he was on Kweevak Radio (which also streamed on the Internet) on 5th February. Two days later Kasim played a solo gig on Staten Island and then about 10 days later he flew out to Australia (via Los Angeles) for the first Meat Loaf concerts in that country since 1996. Kasim reported in his online journal that no sooner had he got off the plane than he was whisked off to a rehearsal with a boys choir ready for 3 of the concerts which were recorded for later release on a DVD. Kasim played opening sets at 3 of the 4 concerts that month - a month which included even more flying as the concerts were in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbne so all required another flight!

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars, World tour this summer Kasim and The New Cars - a new bio
18.45 - The William Morris Agency website has a new bio about The New Cars which makes an interesting read. I especially like the description "Joining Elliot Easton on guitar and Greg Hawkes on keyboards, will be an all-star group of rockers in Todd Rundgren, fellow Utopia bassist Kasim Sulton, and Prairie Prince, former drummer for The Tubes. Each shares a passion for recreating the ground breaking music of The Cars, one of the most successful (and influential) bands of the "new wave" era."

Later in the bio they describe Kasim as "the involvement of his longtime Utopia bandmate, acclaimed bassist and singer / songwriter Kasim Sulton, who has played with the likes of Meat Loaf, Celine Dion, Hall & Oates, Ronnie Spector and The Indigo Girls in his distinguished career".

Elliot Easton also says "Todd, Kasim and Prairie are very dynamic performers."

So far their section doesn't have anything in their Media section (and their Rider is listed either) but it shows the photo of the five band members (the one when Prairie was pasted in), plus the graphic on the right here which may be their new logo.

(The William Morris Agency are one of the premier tour booking agencies.)

Kasim Sulton Kasim Sulton interview
04.45 - It's some shameless self promotion(!) but for those who receive Google alerts about Kasim Sulton via e-mail, the link to this interview by yours truly was delivered to mailboxes last night.

(To read the full transcript of the original interview, click here.)

Wednesday 8th March 2006
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars Kasim and The New Cars
17.45 - Three items in this post - none of them confirmed!

  • The TicketMaster.com link for the Blondie and The New Cars gig on Saturday 24th June at The Borgata in Atlantic City, NJ has disappeared (it did last longer than the other ticket links!).
  • Wendy posted on the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com that temporarily TicketMaster.com were showing a test page which included the phrase "The New Cars and Blondie: Road Rage Tour 2006" which could possibly the name of the tour.
  • Apparently a radio listener in the San Francisco area (the radio station KFOG were running a competition about The New Cars press conference last week) reported that they'd heard that is going to be "a gathering" before The Leno Show at The House Of Blues, "including some music by The New Cars" and that they have invited 500 people to attend. (Many thanks to Michele Mac for this info.)
  • Video Of The Month (Kasim and The New Cars)
15.00 - Although I've linked to it on various websites for the past month or so, Noble PR (the company who have done the promotion for Todd Rundgren in Europe for the past couple of years) have sent KasimInfo.com a copy of the 32 second video for its servers so that is the current Video Of The Month (the link is on the front page of this website).

This seems to point to the fact that Kasim Sulton will be touring as part of The New Cars in Europe in 2006!

The blurb accompanying the video is interesting as it says:

"It's been 17 years since one of the biggest eighties bands in the world last toured.

The group points to other similar situations where bands successfully emerged with new lead singers, such as AC/DC, Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac, The Doors, Queen, or the most recent example, INXS.

With bands like Fountains of Wayne, The Vines, The Killers, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand and others carrying on The XXXX sound, there appears to be a new generation hungering for the original.

Let the good times roll (again).

    Official Kasim Sulton Merchandise
02.15 - CafePress.com (the only website which stocks official Kasim Sulton merchandise) currently has a "March to a different drum" promotion until Tuesday 14th March.
For $4 off orders of $40 or more, quote the code "MARCH4".
    Kasim Sulton

(Please note that KasimInfo.com is not affiliated in any way with CafePress.com and makes no commission from any purchases made on the website.)

    Tuesday 7th March 2006
Kasim Sulton and The New Cars - another concert added
16.15 - TicketMaster.com are now listing a Blondie and The New Cars gig on Saturday 24th June at The Borgata in Atlantic City, NJ! Tickets go on sale on Saturday 18th March at 10.00am EST and are $45 to $55 (plus charges). It does warn people that GA tickets are standing

It appears that the San Diego concert has also been removed from TicketMaster's servers. As that's two in the one day which have appeared and then vanished, I'm going to work on the assumption on this website that these gigs will be going ahead on those days and purely that "the management" just don't want gigs advertised until after the press conference on 14th March.

Below is a graphic of the page (in case this ticketing link disappears too!):

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars and will be touring with Blondie
Obviously I'm going to need to split this map up into smaller areas when more gigs are announced!

Many thanks to PrivateUniverse for the post on the messageboard attached to TRConnection.com about this concert.

Kasim and The New Cars - new concert!
12.15 - TicketMaster.com are now listing a Blondie and The New Cars gig on Tuesday 23rd May in San Diego! Tickets go on sale on Friday 17th March at 10.00am and are $60 (plus charges).

The concert is at Viejas Casino-Outlet Center Park, 5005 Willows RD #213, San Diego, CA 91901 and starts at 8.00pm.

Now you see it, now you don't!
11.30 - The New Cars gig with Blondie at the Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater in Hinckley, MN on Thursday 1st June has been removed from TicketMaster.com!

There could be a number of reasons for this including:

  • The date and / or venue being changed.
  • The gig not being finalized yet.
  • A glitch in TicketMaster's database.
  • TicketMaster being told to remove it until after the press conference next Tuesday.
  • This gig was found on the Internet on Sunday (see the post at 12.15 on 3/5 further down this page). Tickets were supposed to go on presale on the Internet on Tuesday 14th March at noon and on Saturday 18th March at noon on the telephone.

Many thanks to Jackie Clowes for the heads-up.

So the graphic below is again the updated New Cars US Tour Map:

03.45 - Yesterday the company who have done the promotion for Todd Rundgren in Europe for the past couple of years, Noble PR, sent an e-mail to their mailing list about The New Cars announcing "a major announcement" for next Tuesday (plus attaching their 32 second promo video) which could mean that the details which are released next week may include a European tour too.

    Monday 6th March 2006
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars Kasim and The New Cars
17.30 - Further to the post here yesterday at 17.45, a look at the WHOIS record for TheCarsZone.com shows that the domain name was registered in April 2005 (around the time that The Cars signed with Paid, Inc.).

Whether the plan is to keep that website purely about The Cars and TheNewCars.com website is to be re-opened on 14th March to be about The New Cars is pure speculation at the moment!

Many thanks to DeaconLight.com for the heads-up.

    Kasim Sulton article
Kasim Sulton 05.45 - I don't remember reading this article at the time (or even if you did, it's worth revisiting!) but there's an interesting interview with Kasim Sulton which was used to promote his solo gig at The Hamilton Street Cafe and Stage on Thursday 22nd August 2002. It's on pages 1, 3, 4 and 9 of the August edition of NJCoast.com. The article is titled Kasim Sulton Brings A Sense Of Rock N Roll History To The Coast.

It talks about all aspects of his career up until that date and includes the following comments and quotes:

"He's Kasim Sulton who can probably tell you some juicy parables about some of the biggest names in rock."

"Sulton is best known as the bass player and vocalist in Todd Rundgren's art-pop band Utopia."

"Most of what I've learned about song writing, and the shaping and structure of the song was from my ten years with Todd Rundgren. You can't help having that stuff rub off on you.""

"Richie Sambora [Bon Jovi's guitarist] first met Sulton in the mid-80's on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Sulton continues, "He began telling how much he loved Utopia and the work I did with them. Since then we've gradually became good friends." Sulton wound up playing bass for Sambora's solo tour in the late 1990's."

"When it comes to working a crowd and being a consummate entertainer, Meat Loaf is great at that. I steal ideas from him all the time, whether he knows it or not. He’s also great in the studio, open to everyone's ideas."

"My strengths lie in pop-rock songs and ballads.""

Kasim Sulton's setlist from his gig at The Tin Angel last month - it appears that originally he was going to play a slightly longer set including Across The Universe
(I like the way he includes the ' above the e in Cliché!)
Many thanks to Gregg X for this scan

    Sunday 5th March 2006
Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars Kasim and The New Cars - promo
17.45 - It appears that the promotion machine for The New Cars US Tour is beginning to swing into action after a hesitant start.

  • In early February two new websites opened about The New Cars - TheNewCars.com which was thought to be the official website as it was produced by Paid, Inc. (who signed a merchandising deal with The Cars a year ago), and TheNewCars.net which was a fan run website.
  • By 12th February the fan run website TheNewCars.net had been told to close until the press conference on 14th March and soon afterwards TheNewCars.com's front page was changed to being totally blank.
  • On Tuesday 14th March The New Cars will be holding some sort of press conference and afterwards making an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno when it is expected that the "reformation" of the band and details about the tour will be announced.
  • Meanwhile fans have found several concerts on the Internet. Tickets have already gone on sale for the concert (with Blondie) in Atlanta, GA and dates have been confirmed for Konocti Harbor, CA, Hinckley, MN and Uncasville, CT, plus logos are on venue websites in Jones Beach, NY and Holmdel, NJ.
  • 10th Street Entertainment are the company behind The New Cars and promo photos were easily available on their website until earlier this week when they were password protected.
  • 10th Street Entertainment appear to be trying to create some sort of mystery surrounding this "reformation" as logos on the various venue websites do not name The New Cars although most link to the short promo video which is set to the music of their forthcoming single (Not Tonight) and shows 4 out of 5 of the members of the band.
  • Finally today, two more promo items have been discovered on the Internet. A new official website has opened called TheCarsZone.com (I can't find anything about Kasim Sulton on there yet!) and apparently KFog.com (in the San Francisco area) ran a competition on Friday to "get in on the big trip to LA to be the KFOG Correspondent for the unveiling of The New Cars with Todd Rundgren.
  • Many thanks to DeaconLight.com for the link to TheCarsZone.com and TRiFanOk for the link to the KFog competition.

Kasim and The New Cars - new concert
12.15 - The New Cars will be playing with Blondie at the Grand Casino Hinckley Amphitheater in Hinckley, MN on Thursday 1st June!

Tickets go on presale on the Internet on Tuesday 14th March at noon and on Saturday 18th March at noon on the telephone and vary in price from $32.00 to $48.00 (plus charges). Click here for the ticketing link.

Many thanks to Vikki for this info.

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are The New Cars Kasim on The Jay Leno Show
12.00 - It doesn't mention Kasim Sulton by name but The New Cars are now listed on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno website for 14th March!

Also listed as guests on that date are Wanda Sykes and Rainn Wilson. Wanda Sykes "has been called one of the funniest stand up comics by her peers and ranks among Entertainment Weekly’s 25 Funniest People in America" (according to her website) and Rainn Wilson apparently is an actor who has appeared in TV shows like The Office and Six Feet Under.

Kasim Sulton, Elliot Easton, Greg Hawkes, Todd Rundgren and Prairie Prince are touring as The New Cars with Blondie Kasim and The New Cars
03.45 - Just a reminder that today at 10.00am tickets go on sale for the Blondie concert which Kasim Sulton will be playing as part of The New Cars at The Chastain Park Amphitheatre in Atlanta, Georgia on Saturday 17th June. (This is the first concert of the tour to go on sale.)

Tickets are $59.25 for the Orchestra, $54.25 for the Rear Orchestra and $37.25 for the Lawn (plus charges). The venue website says that it is a "Table Set-Up" concert but there's no indication that people have to buy seats for the whole table as one fan has reported happened previously at this venue.

Tickets can be purchased by telephoning (404) 233-2227 or, for preferred seating for American Express Gold Card and Platinum Card members, call (800) 448-TIKS. There are additional concerts at this venue going on sale at 10.00am today so the lines may be quite busy!

There is also expected to be a full page advertisement in today's Atlanta Journal Constitution newspaper (in the Arts section).
