Kasim Sulton at The Night Of The Proms, Rotterdam - 12/02/01

Tonight was a really great concert! It’s just such a shame that it’s the last one in Rotterdam as I’ve really enjoyed these shows! The Dutch make a great audience and yet there’s none of the crowding that there is in Antwerp. Also, although officially they don’t allow one to take photos, the Ahoy security don’t stop people (although the NOTP security will).

As a special treat tonight they brought back Rob Di Nise and he was a massive hit with the crowd. The more times I hear Malle Babbe, the more I’m amazed that Kasim managed to sing it correctly phonetically as it’s a very long, very involved song!

Although Meat Loaf was very tired tonight (a friend pointed out to me various things he does on stage when he’s shattered!), he still put on a great show! I thought that his voice was holding up surprisingly well as it was his twelfth show on consecutive nights too.

Kasim Sulton at The Night Of The Proms, Rotterdam - 12/01/01 Unfortunately Kasim’s microphone didn’t seem to be turned up quite as loud as normal during Home By Now / No Matter What but they adjusted that by You Took The Words Right Outta My Mouth. In that song, Kasim was clapping with one hand behind his back with the First Violinist again!

Kasim really seems to favour the left side of the stage during Anything For Love as again tonight he wandered across there during the long intro. Meat Loaf paces across the stage several times at the beginning of that track so they keep playing the intro over and over.

I think tonight was one of the longest sets as it was only 15 seconds short of fifty minutes (not that I’m complaining!) and, again in Paradise By The Dashboard Light, we had the walkout of the whole cast as they reckon that we didn’t sing it loud enough! Considering how subdued the audiences were in Hannover and Cologne, I think they may stay off the stage when we get to Germany next week!

A nice twist happened in Paradise as when Patti was singing her “Do you love me?” part, she started chasing Meat Loaf around the piano! She then stopped and went the other way round so he switched direction too.

Yellow Submarine was a laugh again as Meat Loaf came on wearing a Father Christmas red hat with blonde pigtails! That’s one thing I do like about him - his ability to make fun of himself! Kasim went across and played the double bass again which was fun to watch (unfortunately though Martin Fry kept getting in the way so I couldn’t take any photos of it). He opted for a different guy’s double bass tonight - they all seem very keen for him to use theirs! Consequently Kasim was last off the stage again but tonight he walked across to the left side where they all exit.

Roll on Wednesday night…..!
