Yellow Submarine
Thankfully there seemed to be a lot of short people there tonight so I had a perfect view throughout of Kasim, but unfortunately it meant that security also had a unrestricted view of me so I couldn’t take any photos as I saw them stop three other people earlier in the show. The concerts next week are in Germany so maybe security will be laxer there!
It was an earlier 7.00 pm Sunday start show but it was back to the normal (decent) shots on the video screens tonight and the third background singer was back too. Unfortunately Bonnie Tyler didn’t play (so we only had a double dose of Kasim tonight) but the French guy was there instead and everyone (but me!) sings along to his two songs.
It was the same set list for Meat Loaf again tonight (although it does seem to go down really well with the crowd), but of course the delivery is different each time. The song that varies the least is Home By Now / No Matter What (with Kasim’s wonderful vocals). Meat Loaf starts that song by sitting on a stool but I think he usually stands by the end of it. Tonight a group of girls behind me were singing the Boyzone background vocals to it!
You Took The Words Right Outta My Mouth is a lot slicker than at the beginning of the tour and they seem to have settled into the routine of Kasim, Patti and Pearl singing and clapping the “kissing me” part (Mark Alexander claps along to that part too but doesn’t have a microphone to sing into).
Although the intro into Anything For Love relies heavily on the lead guitar, for some reason Laurie Wiseman stays back in the Electric Band and only comes forward (with Kasim) at the beginning of Paradise By The Dashboard Light.
In that song, Meat Loaf usually gets the audience to sing the word “Light” and often makes out that we didn’t sing it loud enough but tonight he actually started walking off the stage! People began cheering for him to come back (with Kasim encouraging us!) so he came back and made us all sing it louder!
Patti certainly earns her money at these concerts! As well as her increasingly strong singing, Meat seems to be mauling and fondling her more and more each night! I certainly couldn’t do her job! As I’ve been asked(!) Meat Loaf’s voice sounds fine to me although he did seem to be sweating rather excessively tonight.
The orchestra really get into Paradise (Meat Loaf got the conductor Robert Groslot) to jive again tonight), with the conductor (why do conductors only have one baton when they conduct with both hands?!!) even conducting them into swaying from side to side! Kasim does a thing with the lead violinist during Paradise when they jolt together quickly in time to the music, and tonight (when Meat was doing something on stage), Kasim went and sat on his lap!
Yellow Submarine was as light hearted as ever tonight! Meat Loaf always runs on the stage when he’s introduced (before the rest of the band) and claps the hands of all the artists on stage ending with Kasim (who has usually walked to the line-up by then). Usually just before the singing starts, Meat Loaf throws a bouquet into the crowd near the front but tonight he carried one of the flower girls across to the centre of the stage first! Kasim usually tickles or distracts Mark Alexander somehow as he’s singing his lines so tonight for most of that time he had Mark’s had almost across his face! Kasim didn’t get a microphone tonight so he shared one with someone else and a few times sang the repeating part by himself which was brilliant to hear!
Roll on tomorrow night…..! And we get to sit!!!!
