Tonight was an incredible experience!

I really didn’t know what to expect from a Night Of The Proms show except that it was a mixture of rock and classical music, but it was actually ten times better than I expected! It wasn’t at all stuffy and I recognised all but two of the classical music!

As there are another 42 concerts, I’ll leave my comments about the orchestra and the amazing choir for another reviews except to say that they certainly earnt their money!

There was a “special surprise guest” tonight who was Bonnie Tyler but the more special treat for me was that Kasim Sulton played acoustic guitar during her hit It’s A Heartache!

Meat Loaf played for about forty minutes and, despite the fact that I’m not too keen on the setlist, the audience seemed to really warm to the songs! Kasim looked really stylish as he was appropriately dressed in his white shirt and black suit and he played his black Spector bass.

Kasim Sulton at The Night Of The Proms, Antwerp - 10/26/01 They started with Home By Now that lead into No Matter What - I heard a few mutterings about Boyzone around me! This was only the third time that I’ve actually seen Kasim sing it on stage (as there used to be a curtain up during both the Greatest Hits and StoryTellers Tours) and he sang exactly the same background vocals as are on the record.

After that they sang a shortened version of You Took The Words Right Outta My Mouth (with the second verse missing). A nice touch was that at the beginning when the Red Rose speech was playing, absolutely everybody on stage froze in position which was eerie! I did feel sorry for the conductor guy though as he had his hand half up in the air at the time so that must have been aching!

Next they played Anything For Love (the same arrangement as they do on most tours) and ended their set with Paradise By The Dashboard Light (I was hoping for Bat Out Of Hell!). The orchestra struggled slightly in that song as Meat kept stopping for emphasis which they weren’t expecting so a few times Kasim kept the beat with the neck of his guitar (as the conductor had his back to Meat).

They all trooped off the stage and we had a stirring rendition of Land Of Hope And Glory before they introduced ALL the acts again for rounds of applause. The whole of Meat Loaf’s band came back on for that and then everybody on stage sang Yellow Submarine as a finale! I’m not sure if Kasim wasn’t expecting that or what but he was laughing and smiling through it a lot!

My next review will be more comprehensive but my feet and body are suffering badly from standing for over five hours! Will I go through it all again tomorrow? You bet!!!
