Utopia Live in Boston

On Monday 24th January 2005, Sanctuary Visual Entertainment released Utopia: Live in Boston 1982. The DVD includes a 1 hour and 40 minute long concert, featuring 23 songs that have been re-mastered in 5.1 Surround Sound.

The bonus features include a photo gallery and 88 minutes of recently filmed candid interviews with what many consider to be the classic Utopia line-up - Todd Rundgren (guitar vocals), Kasim Sulton (bass, vocals), Willie Wilcox (drums, vocals), and Roger Powell (keyboards, vocals).

This rare live concert captures on tape a band both ahead of their time and at the very height of their creative energies. This DVD captures Utopia's diverse repertoire over the six-year period from 1977 to 1982, during which Utopia released Ra, Oops! Wrong Planet, Adventures in Utopia, Deface the Music, Swing to the Right, and Utopia.

Utopia: Live In Boston 1982 was taped during the bands concert to promote their 1982 three-sided album, Utopia. Songs from Utopia were rarely performed after that tour, making this concert footage highly coveted among Utopia fans. Although Hammer In My Heart and Princess Of The Universe became staples of later tours; many of the other fine songs were performed infrequently, if at all, after 1982. Rarities include, Libertine, I'm Looking At You, Say Yeah, and Infrared & Ultraviolet.

During the time of the filming of the Boston concert, Utopia embarked on an American tour to promote the release of their 1982 self-titled album, Utopia, for Network Records (a short-lived record label distributed in America by Elektra Records). The album featured so many songs that upon original release, Network released the album on two vinyl discs and the songs took up three sides. Since then, the record has been referred to in Utopia circles as "the legendary, much sought after three-sided album."

The majority of songs performed on the DVD are taken from this particular album. During the concert, Utopia also perform two songs, Couldn't I Just Tell You, and Just One Victory, taken from Todd Rundgren's solo albums.
