Hello It's Me
A Dream Goes on Forever

Review by SueW:
With 6 gigs in 8 days (plus work and attending a festival too this week) I’ll be keeping these reviews much briefer than I normally do.

I had a ticket for the standing area tonight and it got very hot, even though it wasn’t such a hot day. Even I took my jacket off eventually.

Someone remarked last night about how many guys there were compared to girls in the audience at the gig and the same applied tonight too.

I seemed to be standing in the area reserved for guys over six feet tall so quite often I could only see one band member at any time. As that was often Kasim, I wasn’t complaining!

Todd mentioned that he was aware that lots of people will have been here last night too so he changed some of his jokes. He still did the boring one about counting the band in but he also joked through the set about the guy in front of his microphone stand potentially being hit by it.

I didn’t think that Todd’s voice was as good tonight. Often he sounded quite hoarse and didn’t hit all the notes although some of his 'screams' were perfect.

Where I was standing Kasim’s voice was very loud in the mix (to the point of drowning out John and Jesse's) which I really liked!

My favourite song in the set is easily Drive, especially as it is preceded by Courage.

Tonight Todd did the scissor kicks in Couldn’t I Just Tell You by himself as Kasim didn’t join in. I couldn't really see if it was because Kasim couldn’t get out from where he was or what. Near the start of the set Todd joked that they were cramped and it wasn't helped by the fact that there was a piaono yaking up about ten feet on the stage too.

Kasim seems to be really enjoying these gigs this week!

Kasim was wearing all black again tonight but clear glasses rather than the light sensitive ones he wore last night so that was much better to see him!

Todd said that the British (he mentioned Manchester) had made a thing about how many times he played his guitar on this tour. (I thought that was a bit unfair on the Brits as lots of Americans said the same thing too during the US legs of the tour.) Tonight Todd said that, as they were playing songs that he imagined we would request him to play, that it was our fault that he played so little guitar as we had chosen the songs!

Roll on the next London gig tomorrow!

The band:
On stage with Todd, the band consisted of Kasim Sulton (bass), Jesse Gress (guitar), Prairie Prince (drums) and John Frenzik (keyboards).

More about this gig (hopefully including videos) will be added in a few days

The venue (taken from the KasimInfo.com Blog that day):
Kasim Sulton and Todd Rundgren venue Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the third of six gigs in England on the 'Classic Todd Rundgren' Tour.

The gig tonight is at the Jazz Cafe which is the venue where they will also be playing on Wednesday evening and played last night.

The address of the venue is Jazz Cafe, 5 Parkway, Camden Town, London, NW1 7PG. This is in the north west part of London. (On Saturday they played the first gig of the tour in Manchester which is about five hours drive north west from London.)

Tickets for this gig were £31.25 (about $40) for General Admission (standing) tickets and £46 (about $60) for seated tickets on the higher floor. Tickets for this gig sold out very fast.

This will be Kasim Sulton's first appearance at this venue.

The Jazz Cafe was opened in December 1990 after being converted from a bank!. It originally ran along the lines of Ronnie Scott's with seven nights a week live Jazz music. After the venue was bought by the Mean Fiddler company it re-positioned itself as "a Jazz, Soul, Funk, World, Dance and Hip Hop venue."

The gig is listed as starting at 7pm (2pm NYC time) but HMV (who own the venue) have a policy of only putting the door opening time on their tickets so that people arrive early and drink! The show will actually start (with no opening act) at about 8.30pm.
