Kasim Sulton News

Thursday 8th December

Tonight Kasim Sulton played his 85th and final performance of the Billy Joel / Twyla Tharp musical Movin' Out at The Richard Rogers Theater in New York City. Kasim's first performance in the musical was on Friday 1st October 2004 and he is the only musician in the history of the musical to have occupied more than one "chair". The musical closes on Sunday (11th) as the theater has changed owners.

In tonight's performance (on Kasim's 50th birthday) he played guitar and sang background vocals. Kasim described it as "I played my last show with Movin' Out. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't somewhat emotional. For just over the past year, whenever I had a day off, a week home or was in the NYC area and not busy with other projects, I would call John Scarpulla, the first Tenor Sax musician and the guy who made the schedule up for the second rhythm guitar chair, to let him know I was available that week and ask to be put in on the show. John always went out of his way to accommodate me."
