I Saw The Light  The Blue Ocean Music Hall was a lovely venue. It was set on what we call the promenade in England and it jutted out slightly into the sea. As the tide was in it did mean that we were above the waves for the concert itself. This was a new venue and had a stylish looking restaurant next door, plus they served food inside the venue itself. As lovely as Kasim’s nose is, when I looked at the seating plan I decide that I didn’t want to spend all evening looking up it so I decided that I’d get a better view from the second row of tables and I really did! I sat between where Todd and Kasim stand on stage so I had a brilliant view. The sound was good at this venue too as it wasn’t too loud and the vocals weren’t drowned out by the music. When I arrived I was told that there was no opening act and that their set was expected to last about two hours. In fact we got all the set so it lasted about two and a half hours. I far preferred this gig to last night’s in Edgewood. Although I still don’t like blues music having songs like #1 Lowest Common Denominator and Born To Synthesise broke up the set nicely, especially as Todd moved BTS further back into the set which is when blues-tedium can set in for me. Also Todd didn’t appear to switch guitars as much (which had disrupted the set on the first night) or, at least, when he did switch them, he did it himself and didn’t need the tech to keep walking on stage. Kasim again played his black and white bass and used his pearl coloured bass at the end. Both he and Jesse seemed to sing slightly more tonight (maybe that was because BTS was in the setlist).
 Open My Eyes and I Saw The Light were very well received by the crowd tonight, plus lots of people at the front tables stood to applaud after Black Maria. The lighting at this venue was quite decent (even on Kasim) although they did have a habit of switching the lights onto the audience between the songs and leaving the musicians in the dark. When Todd first walked on stage we were bathed in a blue light and he mentioned that it was appropriate as they were playing the blues tonight. Even though I enjoyed the gig tonight, I'm really not sorry that I'm not going to any more of the gigs on this tour, especially as Kasim is adding his own solo gigs for May!

Right on the beach, the entire back wall a bank of windows, tasty food, nice and competent people, and of course a great show, OH TR and friends." I could tell that they knew their chops, but first night jitters, it didn't always gel as crisply as I am sure TR was aiming for. The Salisbury show brought it all together and they ROCKED THE HOUSE." "nevitably, there were people shouting for songs like Hello It's Me -- the wife of a friend of a friend sitting at my table called out for it all night. She was somewhat placated by I Saw The Light during the encores." "Compared to the TR's Johnson songs heard as the opening sets for the California AWATS shows last December, the band has tightened up their sound and timing tremendously. There were only a few loose parts which I would expect to hear firmed up during this tour -- there had only been one rehearsal and one show prior to this show."

Tonight Kasim Sulton plays the second gig of the Todd Rundgren Johnson's Music Tour. The gig tonight is in Salisbury, MA.The venue is called the Blue Ocean Music Hall but until 3 days ago it was called the Tupelo Music Hall. The address of the venue is 4 Ocean Front North, Salisbury, MA 01952 and apparently the venue is right on the beach front with views out over the ocean. The website states "waves actually break underneath the building!" Click here to view the new venue website. The venue only opened last November so this is Kasim Sulton's first appearance here. The website says that no seat is further than 50 feet from the stage and the seats are arranged around tables. The capacity is 500 seated. Tickets vary in price bewteen $50 and $40 and can be purchased from this link. However a few days ago there were only two seats available for this gig but at different tables.
