Review by Mark C. from Greenville, SC:
The show was fabulous! It being a Thursday night, the turnout for Kasim's show was embarassingly low. I would say 30 or 40 fans were in attendance, this even after his great interview on 96.7 The Buzzard earlier in the day. Most fans seemed to be from out of town, so I guess myself and my wife were two of maybe a handful of Kasim/Utopia fans from Greenville. This didn't seem to bother Kasim for he appeared very comfortable in this intimate setting.

I can't recall the entire setlist but he played quite few tunes from Quid Pro Quo including "Sacrifice"; some Todd tunes ("Cliche", "It Wouldn't Have Made Any Difference"), Utopia ("Libertine", "There Goes My Inspiration") and rounded out the evening with "Don't Hold Me Back" and a stunning Beatle's cover of "Across the Universe". He also played "Drive" from The Cars, a song that Kasim has made his own in my opinion. There were several songs I admit I didn't recognize; some were songs he plans to record for his next studio CD, when he can get to it!

Kasim was very candid and did not hesitate to interact with the audience between songs. He shared personal insights into why he wrote certain songs and the occasions that inspired him to write them. The evening was peppered with stories (The BirchTree and the Chainsaw) and other anecdotes about their trip to Greenville. Doug was very enjoyable to watch, and a player he is! Doug, a native Greenvillian, right? Speed Guitar Courses? Has Kasim bought you a Happy Meal from McDonald's yet? LOL. Afterwards, Kasim came out, and in an outpouring of generosity and gratitude, spent a good half hour talking to fans, signing albums, and having pictures made. All in all, a quite unforgetable night at the Handle-bar!!!

The thing that made this whole trip worth while was the fact that I had never played a solo show this far south before. Everyone at the club was so nice to me and Doug and I hope to return there in the not too distant future."
